In 1924, Raymond S.H. Kam left China at the age of 11 for Honolulu. His first job was at Kalihi Queen Super Market where he learned the grocery business.
In 1947, Raymond went back to China and married a Chinese girl from Peru named Alicia. (Coincidently, Alicia's parents owned a grocery store in Peru.) This business savvy couple then decided to come back to Hawaii.
In 1948, Raymond and Alicia returned from China with $40. With the help of friends and family, the couple was able to purchase a thin –walled, two story house using downstairs as the very first Alicia's Market, which was located at the corner of Democrat and Mokauea.
In 1964, they bought and moved to their current location on 267 Mokauea Street. Since then they have been serving the people of Hawaii delicious roasted meats and the very best poke you can find in Hawaii.
